Antananarivo (AN-tan-AN-ah-REEV-oo) (City of a Thousand), also known as Tana, is the capital of Madagascar.Climate: Like much of central Madagascar has a subtropical highland climate with lots of rainfall, sitting at 1437mm (56.5 inches). It is located in the southern hemisphere, so that seasons are reversed from the northern one. Winter lasts from June to August and temperatures usually range from 10°C (50°F) to 21°C (70°F). The city is warmer than the highlands to the east but much cooler than the city of Toamasina in the west coast. When cool air masses arrive from the south, nighttime lows can drop to 5°C (42°F) and but frosts almost never occur. The record low is 2°C (35°F). Summers are also very pleasant, ranging from 17°C (62°F) to 26°C (79°F). High temperatures haven't ever got above 33°C (91°F).
