Round walk Mtae – Mambo/Mambo-Mtae
Emmerse yourself in a full day of “ ecobathing”, breathing in the pure mountain forest air as you travel narrow forest paths. A total of 2,855 different plant species have been identified in the Usambara mountain forests. You may meet a troop of black and white Colobus monkeys or a Blue monkey troop. Birds and chameleons make their homes in the trees along the way. This is the day of trekking and we overnight at Limbe home stay in Sunga village.
A short walk to Quinseagambe village brings us to a cup of coffee. The villagers still tend coffee plants originally grown from beans given to them by German farmers over a hundred years ago. The beans are harvested by hand, soaked and then dried on grass mats, and finally hulled. The beans are roasted in an open pan on the fire, then ground in a wooden mortar and pestle. The ground coffee is then added to boiling water. The resulting coffee is full of flavor and history.
Enjoy it as you look out over the rolling mountains. A short walk down the hill leads you to an old German mansion, and then the path continues onward up to the escarpment and views of the Masaai plain some 1400 meters below. Continue to Mambo Cliff Inn or Magumba View Point for overnight stay.
